From Booker T. to the ring, north Tulsa native paves path to become pro MMA fighter

Truck driver by day, fighter by night, north Tulsa native Malik Thompson is balancing fatherhood, faith and a full-time job as he trains for his first pro MMA fight.

After six years in the gym and a 7–4 amateur record, he’s pushing toward 2026.

“It’s like my peace. I can find peace in what I’m doing. And that’s why I feel like it comes from Christ, because… there’s a certain peace I find in it,” Thompson said. “It’s a very chaotic thing. It’s war. It’s barbaric, but it gives me peace. And that’s weird to me sometimes, but …
